Coastal Stays in SoCon to Host College of Charleston The Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball team (1-0), fresh off an exciting 59-58 win over Wofford this past Sunday, will face another Southern Conference foe Wednesday, Nov. 14 as the Lady Chanticleers host the College of Charleston (0-0). Game time is at 7 p.m., in Kimbel Arena. Coastal has four of its first five games at home this season. Scouting College of Charleston This will be the first game of the season for the College of Charleston, who finished last year with a 10-20 overall record and a 5-13 Southern Conference mark. Senior Jill Furstenburg returns to the lineup after averaging 8.2 points per game last season. The Cougars’ top returning scorer, Jade Hughes, will miss the 2007-08 season with an injury. The College of Charleston had an intersquad scrimmage Oct. 18 with Furstenburg leading the way with 12 points. The Cougars are coached by Nancy Wilson, who is in her 13th season in Charleston and her 26th season overall. She has a 467-286 overall record and a 236-137 record at the school. Series vs. College of Charleston The College of Charleston leads the overall series with Coastal 30-9. Coastal opened last year with a 70-56 win over the Cougars Nov. 16, 2006. Alisha Dill led the Lady Chants with 26 points while Calisha Yates added 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Coastal has taken the last two meetings over the Cougars, as it beat C of C 58-51 Dec. 20, 2005, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Coastal earned 77 points and were five points away from the fourth spot. Radford was picked to win the League, garnering 16 first-place votes and 162 points. Liberty earned the second spot with nine first-place votes and 156 points. Defending Big South Tournament champion UNC Asheville was picked third with 113 points. Liberty’s Megan Frazee was selected the Big South Player of the Year, getting 112 points and 17 first-place votes. He was behind the microphone when the PC football team won the South Atlantic Conference championship and recorded the school’s first NCAA football playoff appearance in 2005.
