Men's Basketball Falls to Wright State 71-48

FAIRBORN, Ohio -- Senior Jack Leasure had 13 points and junior Joseph Harris added 12 points and five rebounds, but Wright State (1-0) forced the Coastal Carolina University men’s basketball team (2-2) into 25 turnovers and went on a 23-2 run to end the first half in a 71-48 decision Nov. 19 in Fairborn, Ohio. Six points from Harris and a three by Leasure kept Coastal down only 11-9 at the 11:55 mark of the first half. After Vaughn Duggins hit two free throws at 11:19, Coastal went on a 10-2 run in the next 3:28. Freshman Anthony Breeze hit a jumper at 11:08 and Harris had a deuce to tie the game at 13. Jordan Pleiman’s layup put Wright State up 15-13, but back-to-back three’s from Leasure gave the Chants a 19-15 lead at 7:51. The Raiders took a time out and came back with eight straight points from Todd Brown. Will Graham then had four in a row, the last two coming on a dunk that gave WSU a 27-19 lead. Leasure’s layup at 3:45 cut the lead to six (27-21), but Brown scored the next eight points and Duggins three pointer with five seconds left put Wright State up 38-21 heading into halftime.
Brown had 18 first-half points for Wright State, with Duggins adding 12. For Coastal, Leasure had 11 points, going 3-for-3 from three-point range. Coastal committed 15 first-half turnovers and shot 39.1 percent from the floor. Wright State shot 42.3 percent from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. Coastal would get no closer than the halftime margin, as the Raiders led by as much as 29 points (66-37). Three-pointers from junior Steven Sexton and sophomore Joshua Mack and a layup from senior Phil Wallace cut the final margin to 23 points. Breeze had his second good performance, scoring eight points and grabbing eight rebounds. Mack and redshirt sophomore Logan Johnson had five assists apiece, while Mack added three steals. Coastal shot 40 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent (5-12) from three-point land. Wright State ended the game shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 14-of-16 from the free-throw line. Brown ended the game with 20 points for the Raiders, while Duggins added 16. Scottie Wilson was the third Raider in double figures, scoring 14 points. Coastal hosts Anderson Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
