Women's Tennis Picks up Two Wins on Saturday

Beat Gardner-Webb 6-1 and Winston-Salem State 7-0

CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team picked up two wins on Saturday at Billy Nichols Tennis Center after defeating Gardner-Webb 6-1 and Winston-Salem State 7-0.
In the first match of the day against Gardner-Webb the Lady Chanticleers were again victorious picking up the 6-1 win. Coastal won the doubles point after sweeping the Lady Bulldogs in all three matches. At number one doubles, senior Hayley Rudman (Johannesburg, South Africa/Northcliff High School (MIssissippi State University)) and junior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Georgia/Brookwood High School (Georgia Southern University)) defeated Amy Beavers and Laure Kriett 8-5. In the second doubles slot, senior Sarzie Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Oranje Meisieskool (Texas Tech)) and junior Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm,Sweden/Adalsskolan) took down Monica Walser and Jenny Gomez 8-4 while the freshmen team of Kimberely Webb (Millfield School) and Maria Comberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) picked up a win against Kasey Ellis and Carol Pancia 8-5.
In Singles action, Rudman, the number one spot, lost the first set to Laura Kriett, 2-6 but then bounced back to win the next two 7-5, 6-4 to pick up her second win in the position of the season. Pazahanick defeated Kasey Ellis in the two hole 6-4, 6-2 while Webb was defeated by Lady Bulldog's Monica Walser 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4. The remaining three Lady Chants picked up wins in the day, Coetzee against Jenny Gomez 7-6 (2), 6-0, Ahlberg took down Amy Beavers 7-5, 7-6 (0) and Camberos defeated Carol Pancia 6-0, 6-2.
In the second match of the day the Lady Chanticleers defeated Winston-Salem State 7-0. Coastal again won the doubles point after winning two matches and picking up a default point for the third slot due to Winston-Salem State's lack of players. In the number one doubles sport, Pazahanick and Coetzee defeated Terese Lavan and Amanda Walker 8-0 and in the second hole, freshman Tina Petkova and senior Nicole Lemmerer (Bad Mitterndorf, Austria/Borg Bad Aussee) defeated Carmen Davis and Ashely Hopper 8-0. Comberos and Ahlberg were credited the default point.
In singles action, Coetzee picked up her first win in the number on singles position without losing a set to Lavan 6-0, 6-0. Comberos picked up her third singles win after beating Walker 6-1, 6-2 in the two hole while Lemmerer picked up her first singles victory of the day against Davis 6-0, 6-1. In the fourth slot, Petkova also picked up her first win on the day without dropping a set to Hopper 6-0, 6-0 and Ahlberg beat Jessica Smith in the fifth spot 6-0, 6-0. Pazahanick was credited with a default win in the sixth singles position.
The Lady Chanticleers are back in action tomorrow as they host North Carolina A&T at 1 p.m.
