Men's Tennis Sweeps Coker 7-0 More Information:
CONWAY, S.C.- The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team picked up its third straight win after defeating Coker College, 7-0. The Chanticleers have yet to lose a set in 2007.
In the win for Coastal, junior David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) picked up his first win in the number one slot after defeating Coker's Duncan Grew 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore transfer Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) defeated Tim Morton 6-3, 6-2 while senior captain Elliott Quibell (Derby, England/Cheam (Colorado)) defeated Esteban Teran in the three hole 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) defeated James Schroeder 6-3, 6-3 and seniors Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) also picked up victories with Caress defeating Danny Nash 6-0, 6-0- and Redding beating Dustin Yager 6-2 6-1.
In doubles action, Coastal again swept the Cobras getting wins from all three teams. Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen Mary's College) and Caress defeated Nash and Yager 8-2, the team of Quibell and Mellis beat Grew and Schroeder 8-1 while Tzvetkov and Redding picked up the win for Coastal taking down Morton and Tyson Thompson 8-2.
"Down the line we played well today," Head Coach Chris Powers commented. "Our doubles game has really stepped up since last season and I'm comfortable with any of our guys in the lineup. Things get tougher as we head into the weekend but I'm confident and we're ready to go."
The Chanticleers are back in action on Friday as they host Limestone at 2 p.m. and then again on Saturday when they have a dual match against Gardner-Webb at 11 a.m. followed by Winston Salem State at 4 p.m.
