LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team picked up its third conference win against the Flames of Liberty 6-1 to put the Chanticleers at 14-7, 3-2 in the Big South on the year.
Senior Andy Caress (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) picked up his 14th singles win and his 15th doubles win with partner Simon Taylor (Hampshire, England/Queen Mary's College).
The Chanticleers picked up the doubles point after sweeping the Flames in all three matches.
Caress and Taylor defeated Liberty's number one team of Jarda Trojan and Chad Simpson 8-6 while Plamen Tzvetkov (Herts, United Kingdom/Stanborough) and Richard Redding (Winscombe, England/Queen Elizabeth's Hospital) took down Luis Olivera and Fabricio Picanco at the number two spot 8-4.
The Chanticleers picked up an insurance win from the doubles team David Mellis (London, England/Goffs) and Joseph Withers (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap (Liberty)) after they beat Sebastian Pena and Juan Reyes 9-8.
The Chanticleers picked up five wins out of six on the singles courts with the only Coastal loss coming from the number three spot after Sebastian Pena defeated Redding in a close three set match 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Mellis got his fourth win at the number one position after defeating Chad Simpson 6-3, 6-3 while Taylor picked up his 12th win against Jarda Trojan 6-3, 6-1.
Tzvetkov defeated Luis Olivera 6-1,6-1 while Whithers and Caress both picked up wins at the fifth and sixth singles slot. Withers took down Fabricio Picanco 6-2, 6-2 and Caress defeated Juan Reyes 6-3, 6-2.
The Chanticleers end their Virginia swing of their schedule on Sunday as they look to get their fourth conference win against Radford at 2 p.m.
