Women's Tennis Falls to Charlotte 4-3

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team (8-2) dropped a 4-3 decision to Charlotte (5-2) March 6 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center in Conway, S.C. The doubles duo of senior Hayley Rudman (Johannesburg, South Africa/Mississippi State) and junior Amy Pazahanick (Canton, Ga./Georgia Southern) won their match and each won a single match against the 49ers.
Rudman and Pazahanick won the lone doubles match for the Lady Chanticleers. The duo defeated Ana Spivakovsky and Ali Piacente 8-4 at number-one doubles. Michelle Alexander and Koren Fleming defeated junior Sofie Ahlberg (Stockholm, Sweden/Adalsskolan) and senior Sarize Coetzee (Bloemfontein, South Africa/Texas Tech) 8-5 in number-two doubles, while freshman Kimberley Webb (Monmouthshire, Wales/Millfield School) and classmate Maria Camberos (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Instituto Lomar del Real) fell to Yana Stoeva and Kathy Robey 8-6.
Three of the six singles matches went into a third set, and the number-four singles match had two tiebreakers. Rudman defeated Spivakovsky 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 in number-one singles, while Pazahanick defeated Picante at number-three singles 7-5, 6-2. Ahlberg was the third Lady Chant to win a singles match, defeating Stoeva 6-3, 6-4. In number-two singles, Coetzee fell to Robey 6-4, 6-4. Fleming defeated Webb 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) to take a thriller in number-four singles. Camberos also went three sets, falling to Alexander 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Coastal steps back into Big South play Thursday, March 8 as the Lady Chants hosts UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.
