Men's Golf Head Coach Terrell Signed to New Contract

CONWAY, SC -- Coastal Carolina University has signed head men's golf coach Allen Terrell to a new five-year contract, CCU President David DeCenzo and Athletics Director Warren Koegel announced today.
Terrell was honored as the Eaton Golf Pride South Region Coach of the Year after leading the Chanticleers to the best finish in the history of the Big South Conference in any team sport, placing fifth at the NCAA Championships. He coached three golfers that qualified for the 2007 U.S. Amateur as well as two All-Americans and the first-ever Walker Cup selection in the history of the Big South in three-time All-American Dustin Johnson.
In his seventh year at the helm, he earned his Big South record fifth Coach of the Year honor after leading the Chanticleers to as high as a No. 6 this season and has been a top 10 team all year. Terrell directed CCU to 10 top-five finishes in 13 tournaments, including team titles at the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic, the Administaff Augusta State Invtational and the PUPS Big South Conference Championship and a fifth-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championships, the highest ever of any sport in the history of the Big South Conference. The Chanticleers were named National Team of the Week by Golfweek following the performances at Duke and ASU. In addition, Coastal Carolina had an individual among the top-10 scorers in all 10 events, including seven in the top five. Terrell has been honored as Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004, 2005 (co-Coach), 2006 and now 2007. His teams have posted seven of the top nine season scoring averages in the annals of the program, including this year's school record of 288.27 while playing the program’s toughest-ever schedule.
