Women's Basketball Announces 2007-08 Schedule

CONWAY, S.C. –Sixteen games in the Myrtle Beach/Conway area, including a visit from 2007 Final Four team North Carolina, highlight the 2007-08 Coastal Carolina University women’s basketball schedule, announced today by Head Coach Alan LeForce.

Coastal will take on Queens College in an exhibition Sunday, Nov. 4 before starting the regular season at home against Wofford Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. Coastal has four of its first five games in Kimbel Arena, with visits from the College of Charleston (Nov. 14), South Carolina State (Nov. 20) and Southern Virginia (Nov. 24). Those games sandwich a trip to Stetson Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Lady Chanticleers will come out of the Thanksgiving holiday with a trip to Campbell Nov. 27. After a home game against Converse Dec. 1, Coastal will have a brief two-game road trip at UNC Wilmington Dec. 5 and at Jacksonville Dec. 8.

North Carolina makes its second straight appearance to the Myrtle Beach area as the Tar Heels and Lady Chants play in Kimble Arena Monday, Dec. 17. Coastal will make its annual trip to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center Dec. 20 against Alabama State. The game is part of the Carolinas Challenge.

After the New Year, the Lady Chants have home dates against Coker (Jan. 3) and Morris (Jan. 7) and a road game at Savannah State (Jan. 15) before opening Big South play Jan. 19 against Radford in Conway. Coastal will have 12 Big South games this season, playing regular season champion High Point at home Feb. 9 and Big South Tournament champion UNC Asheville comes to town Feb. 13. The lone men’s-women’s doubleheader takes place Feb. 2 as Coastal hosts Savannah State at 2 p.m.

The regular-season ends March 4 at Charleston Southern. The 2008 Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament takes place March 14-16 at the Justice Center in Asheville, N.C., with the championship game televised on SportSouth.

"We have a young team with 11 freshman and sophomores," LeForce said. "We’ll play a lot of home games and with a young team, that’s the way we wanted it. It’s a schedule that will stretch us. By playing this schedule, it will improve us for the conference. Last year, I thought our conference was the toughest in the 10 years I’ve been in the league and this year will not be an exception. We have some nice home games and the highlight is that we’ll play North Carolina in Kimbel Arena. That’s going to be something."

Coastal returns eight letterwinners from last year’s 18-11 team. The 18 wins in the regular season tied Coastal’s record for wins in a regular season by a Division I program. The Lady Chants bowed out of the Big South Tournament to eventual Big South Tournament champion UNC Asheville March 8.
