CLEARWATER, FLA. -- Coastal Carolina's softball team fell 5-0 to East Tennessee State in the Lady Chanticleers' final day at the USF Under Armour Invitational held at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.

East Tennessee State held a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. After Katie Henderson reached first on a Coastal error, Caitlin Zyskowski made it to first as she laid down a bunt, which moved Henderson to second. A wild pitch allowed Zyskowski and Henderson to advance to second and third, respectively. Amanda Haverman grounded out to junior Brittany Birnbaum (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala) at first, but Henderson advanced to home on the play to give the Bucs a 1-0 advantage.

The scored remained 1-0 until East Tennessee State scored four runs in the fifth inning. While Cheniece Cason lined out to sophomore Laicole Walker (Wichita, Kan./Wichita Collegiate School), Kate Powell had a double down the left field. Powell would score off a Katy Jett double to left field to make it a 2-0 game. A Trisha Massenzo fly ball to junior right fielder Kelsey Riffel (Maize, Kan./Maize) allowed Jett to advance to third. Jessica Hackworth would walk and then stole second, setting up runners in scoring position for Henderson, who hit a three-run home run to left field to give East Tennessee State the 5-0 lead.

Marissa Hardy received the win after throwing all seven innings and giving up two hits. Freshman Ashley Pedersen (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater) had the loss after five innings of work and allowing five runs, four of which were earned, off six hits.

Coastal Carolina returns to action Wednesday, March 12 with a doubleheader against USC Upstate at the CCU Softball Field. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
