Baseball in the Pros Update
Here is an update on the former Coastal Carolina University baseball players currently in professional baseball. Mike Costanzo is hitting .266 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI for the Norfolk Tides of the International League, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Costanzo had three hits apiece in back-to-back games against Rochester and Buffalo July 20-21. Michael DeJesus currently is with the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. He is hitting .301 with six doubles, a home run and 12 RBI. DeJesus drove in two runs at Mobile July 18. Dom Duggan is playing for San Jose, the High-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Duggan is hitting .247 with nine doubles and 12 RBI. He also has five stolen bases. Andy DeLaGarza is 6-1 with a 2.83 earned-run average for Augusta, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. He has 62 strikeouts in 63 innings of work. DeLaGarza earned the save July 21 against Lake County. John Mariotti is 3-1 with a 2.61 ERA for Delmarva, the Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Mariotti has not pitched since April 26 against West Virginia, as he went seven innings with six strikeouts while picking up the win. Mariotti currently is on the disabled list for the Shorebirds. Austin Hinkle is 3-3 with a 2.01 ERA for Columbus, Tampa Bay’s Single-A affiliate. Hinkle struck out two in 1.2 innings against West Virginia July 19. Travis Risser currently is with Hudson Valley, the Short Season-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. He is 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings or work. Risser struck out four against Auburn July 16. Pete Andrelczyk was promoted to Greensboro, the Single-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins, and has made four appearances for the Grasshoppers. He has eight strikeouts in four innings and earned a save July 14 at Columbus. Dock Doyle is hitting .291 with 13 RBI in 23 games for Kingsport, the Rookie affiliate of the New York Mets. Doyle was 4-for-5 with a run scored against Burlington July 19. David Sappelt is hitting .306 with eight doubles, a triple, three home runs and 17 RBI in 28 games for Billings, the Rookie affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Sappelt was 2-for-4 with four RBI against Ogden July 16. Tommy Baldridge was promoted to Tampa, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. He had played in three games for Tampa and has two hits and an RBI July 19 at Jupiter. Chris Raber is now playing for the Washington Wildthings of the Frontier League. He has played in five games and has scored four runs. Brett Grandstrand is hitting .256 with five doubles, a triple and two home runs for the Washington Wildthings of the Frontier League. Grandstrand has 22 RBI and seven stolen bases on the year. Josh Eachues has played 10 games for the Washington Wildthings of the Frontier League. He has five hits and eight RBI in 30 plate appearances. Randy McGarvey is hitting .278 with six doubles, a home run and 18 RBI in 52 games for the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. McGarvey has a .380 on-base percentage for the Riversharks.
Luis Lopez is hitting .341 with 20 doubles, two triples and four home runs for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
