Coastal Carolina Baseball in the Pros Update
Here is an update on the former Coastal Carolina University baseball players currently in professional baseball. Mike Costanzo hit .261 with 11 home runs and 63 RBI for the Norfolk Tides of the International League, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Costanzo also had a .333 on-base percentage and a .395 slugging percentage in 129 games. Michael DeJesus hit .270 with 16 RBI for the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. He had nine doubles, two home runs and a .383 on-bases percentage in 67 games. Dom Duggan ended the season with the Augusta GreenJackets of the South Atlantic League. In 25 games, Duggan hit .282 with two doubles, two triples and eight RBI. He also stole four bases for Augusta. Andy DeLaGarza was 6-2 with a 3.33 earned-run average for Augusta, the Single-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. He had nine saves on the season and struck out 79 batters in 78.1 innings. John Mariotti was 3-2 with a 3.74 ERA for Delmarva, the Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. In 33.2 innings of work, he struck out 26 while allowing just 14 earned runs. Austin Hinkle was 3-4 with a 2.51 ERA for Columbus, Tampa Bay’s Single-A affiliate. Hinkle struck out 67 in 46.2 innings of work and was Columbus’ closer with 13 saves. Travis Risser was 3-0 with a 4.08 ERA for Columbus, Tampa Bay’s Single-A affiliate. He had six saves for the Catfish and struck out 31 in 35.1 innings. Pete Andrelczyk was 1-4 with a 6.12 ERA and one save for Greensboro, the Single-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. Andrelczyk was called up from Jamestown and struck out 29 batters in 25 innings of work. Dock Doyle hit .308 with 20 RBI in 41 games for Kingsport, the Rookie affiliate of the New York Mets. Doyle was then called up to Brooklyn, where he hit .250 in five games for the Cyclones. David Sappelt hit .299 with 19 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 62 games for Billings, the Rookie affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Sappelt had a .496 slugging percentage and helped Billings to the Pioneer League playoffs. Tommy Baldridge hit .253 with three doubles and six RBI in 26 games for Tampa, the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. He stole two bases and had a .360 on-base percentage for the Yankees. Chris Raber hit .274 with 16 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 32 RBI while splitting time in Rockford and Washington of the Frontier League. Brett Grandstrand hit .295 with 17 doubles, two triples and four home runs for the Washington Wildthings of the Frontier League. Grandstrand had 47 RBI and 13 stolen bases on the year. Josh Eachues played in 44 games for the Washington Wildthings of the Frontier League. He hit .215 with four doubles and 27 RBI. Randy McGarvey is hitting .278 with six doubles, a home run and 18 RBI in 52 games for the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League. McGarvey has a .380 on-base percentage for the Riversharks.
Luis Lopez is hitting .318 with 36 doubles, two triples and four home runs for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.
