CONWAY, S.C.-– The Coastal Carolina University men's cross country team earned second place in both the team and individual standings at the 2008 Coastal Carolina Cross Country Invitational Saturday, Sept. 13. The event was moved from Quail Creek Golf Course to the Coastal Carolina University campus due to three straight days with rain.

The Chanticleers took two of the top three spots, as freshman Kyle Kling (Louisville, Ohio/Louisville) finished second just ahead of junior Jamie McCarthy (Riverstick, Ireland/North Monastery). The Chanticleers were second overall with a team score of 42, just behind UNC Wilmington who earned 39 points and the title.

"Kyle had another outstanding race finishing as our top runner," commented Head Coach Jeff Jacobs.

Kling finished his first 6k race as a Chanticleer with a time of 19:05.33, behind Charleston Southern's Andrew King who took the individual title finishing in 19:03.05. McCarthy was third, clocking in at 19:15.62.

The next Chanticleer runners were sophomore Kevin Davis (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro Horrsham) and junior Ryan Caputo (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights), who finished 12th and 15th respectively.

Rounding out the field for Coastal Carolina was sophomore David Mead (Columbia, S.C./Ridgeview) who crossed the line with a time of 21:10.77 and redshirt freshman Rob Delviscio (Morton, Pa./Ridley) who came in at 21:34.86.

The Chanticleers will now prepare to head to Lynchburg, Va. Sept. 20 when they participate in the Big South Conference Preview. Race time is set for 9:15 a.m.
