Women's Track & Field Concludes VT Hokie Invitational More Information:
BLACKSBURG, Va.- The Coastal Carolina University women’s track and field team continued the opening meet of their 2009 season today in Blacksburg, Va., in day two of the VT Hokie Invtitational.
Freshman Kierra Gabe (Adams Run, N.C./Military Magnet) was the Chants lone top-10 finisher on the day after clearing 5’3” (1.60m) in the high jump in her collegiate debut and placed 10th.
In the 200-meter dash, Thomasina Smith (Pawleys Island, S.C./Waccamaw (Anderson)) turned in a time of 26.39, while teammate Jasmine Wheeler (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Everglades) finished 19th with a time of 26.84.
The Chants also entered a trio of athletes in the long jump on day two of competition, as Arielle Miller (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) placed 24th with a leap of 16’6.5” (5.04m), and Jessica Houston (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) placed 25th with a jump of 16’0” (5.03m). Smith placed 26th with a jump of 16’4.25” (4.98m).
The Chants will return to action on Sat., Jan. 24 as they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to partake in the University of North Carolina Classic.
