Men’s Golf Places 10th At Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, ARIZ. -- In its first tournament of the spring season, the Coastal Carolina University men’s golf team finished 10th at the 2009 Arizona Intercollegiate, Feb. 2-3. The two-day, 54-hole event was played at ArizonaTucson, Ariz.National Golf Club (Par 71 - 6,793 yards) in The Chanticleers wrapped up their second round this morning and posted their best team round of the tournament, shooting a 2-under 282, but then followed it up with a 13-over 297 in the final round to end at 26-over 878 for the three rounds. Pepperdine took home the team title with an 855, three shots ahead of runner-up San Diego State at 858. Tennessee rounded out the top three at 862. Senior Zack Byrd (Calabash, N.C./Byrd Academy) showed he has regained his form after last season’s injury and will be a force for the team, as he finished third with a 7-under 206 for the tournament. That score included two under-par rounds, as he shot a 6-under 65 in the second round completed today and then posted a 2-under 69 in the final round. Junior Dan Obremski (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) was next for the Chants in a tie for 31st at 9-over 222. Sophomore Tripp McAllister (Lake City, S.C./The Carolina Academy) followed him in a tie for 54th at 226, while sophomore David Dannelly (Easley, S.C./Easley) at 228 and redshirt freshman Drew Ernst (Seneca, S.C./Seneca) at 234 tied for 65th and 76th, respectively. Tennessee’s Chris Paisley took home medalist honors by three shots at 12-under 201. Coastal Carolina returns to the course, Sat.-Sun., Feb. 14-15 at the SunTrust Gator Invitational, being played at the Mark Bostick Golf Course at the University of Florida (Par 70 – 6,701 yards) in Gainesville, Fla. Last year, the Chants finished ninth at the event.
