Women's Tennis Falls to Charleston Southern, 4-3

CONWAY, S.C. – Battling with just five players due to injury as well as several banged up, the Coastal Carolina University women’s tennis team put up a valiant effort and came up just short, losing to visiting Charleston Southern, 4-3, March 30 at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center. Snapping their 13-mtach winning streak, the Chanticleers fall to 13-2 on the year and 3-1 in the Big South Conference, while the Lady Bucs advance to 3-7 and 2-1 in league play.
In doubles, Coastal Carolina defaulted at No. 3 doubles, forcing it to win the two played matches to take the point. However, the Chanticleers could only manage a victory at No. 2, as Kim Webb and Maria Camberos picked up their 14th straight victory in a battle, winning 8-7 (7-2) over Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic.
The Chanticleers then defaulted at No. 6 singles due to the injury to Caitlyn Brooksbank to trail 2-0. Coastal Carolina battled to earn three wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles to get close, but couldn’t pull out another win to get the dual victory. Webb had the biggest battle in singles, going three sets and winning two tiebreakers to defeat Brooke Pletcher at No. 3 singles, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 7-6 (5). CSU got straight set wins at No. 1 and 2, with Olga Makhova and Andrea Schutte getting the victories to clinch the Lady Bucs win.
Coastal Carolina is scheduled to return to the court Wed., April 1 at Liberty, but the match may have to be rescheduled as the weather may not cooperate for a third time this year.
