CONWAY, S.C. -- The Coastal Carolina men's golf team has seen its strong start to the 2009-10 season recognized, as the Chanticleers are ranked No. 16 according to Golfstat. In addition, the Chants received votes in the first GolfWorld/Nike Golf Division I Coaches Poll, released Sept. 24.
Coastal Carolina has started out the season in solid fashion, finishing third in the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge, pitting 15 conference champions from the 2008-09 season, and then followed it up by winning The McLaughlin at Bethpage Red in Farmingdale, N.Y. Individually, the Chants have had five top-10 and seven top-20 finishes, including senior Sam Lyons tying for medalist honors at The McLaughlin, his first collegiate victory. The win also earned Lyons Big South Men's Golfer of the Week accolades for the second time in his career.
The Chanticleers will next be in action Mon.-Tue., Oct. 5-6 at the 2009 Windon Memorial Classic at Skokie Country Club in Skokie, Ill.
