CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team has been honored with All-Academic Team recognition by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), the organization announced. A total of 82 teams across the collegiate golf spectrum (NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA Division I and II) submitted the minimum GPAs of 3.00 or higher and earned 2008-09 All-Academic Team honors.
"I am very proud of our team for making such a prestigious list," Head Coach Allen Terrell said. "Our team takes a lot of pride in their academic success. We are so indebted to all of our University faculty and Dr. Joe (Mazurkiewicz) for all the extra time spent with our team members. There are so many people working hard to make sure our student-athletes are successful. We are honored to represent the entire Coastal Carolina family in this national achievement."
This is just the first season for the award to be given by the GCAA, as the Chanticleer men's golf program has posted at least a 3.0 GPA during each of Terrell's 10 seasons as head coach. To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors, a college or university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
