Women's Tennis Completes Day One At Wilmington Invite

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Two members of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team reached the semifinals in their respective singles flights to highlight competition for the Chanticleers Friday in the first day of the Wilmington Invitational.
Freshman Mikaela Kristofersson advanced to the semifinals of the A1 singles flight with a 6-3, 3-6, 13-11 win over Radford's Petra Dajevic. Kristofersson will face Andrea Rivera of UNC Wilmington Saturday at 1:30 p.m. for the right to play for the title.
Fellow freshman Kourtney Kowal reached the semifinals of the B1 singles flight following her victory over Christina Riley over UNC Wilmington. Kowal turned in a 6-3, 6-3 win over Riley and will matchup with Heather Robinson of Campbell Saturday at 2 p.m with a bid to the finals on the line.
Kristofersson and Kowal also won a match in the doubles flight and reached the semifinals of the consolation bracket. The duo dropped their first match, 8-4, against Anna Ekelund and Gabi Vergara of Charlotte, but answered with an 8-1 victory over Olesya Palko and Cameron Chatman of North Carolina Central.
Kowal and Kristofersson will battle Fredrica Lombara and Maria Nedstrom of North Carolina Central Saturday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals.
The Coastal tandem of Caitlyn Brooksbank and Dominique De Wit won their first match in the double flight with an 8-6 win over Iveta Guneva and Romina Adum of Charlotte. The duo, however, was ultimately eliminated in the following round with a 9-8 setback to Olga Blank and Christina Lee of UNC Wilmington.
