Coastal Men's Golf Honored by GCAA

Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team
CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team, for the second time in as many years, has been named to the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team.
To be recognized, a school must compile a team grade-point average of at least 3.0. A total of 113 golf programs from NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA were honored this season. Coastal, who had a team GPA of 3.25 in 2009-10, and Liberty were the only two Big South programs to be honored.
"We stress academics as much as we stress athletics," said Coastal Carolina Director of Golf Allen Terrell. "However, we would not be able to have such academic success if it was not for our great support staff, namely the academic support services headed by Dr. Joe Mazurkiewicz. I am extremely proud of this award and the hard work put in by our guys to earn such an honor."
While this is just the second season the GCAA has given its All-Academic Team awards, Coastal Carolina's men's golf program has posted at least a 3.0 GPA in each of Terrell's 11 years with the Chanticleers.
Seven of Coastal's 10-member men's golf team posted at least a 3.0 GPA in 2009-10, including Drew Ernst (3.45), Anders Larson (3.75), Alan Lee (3.66), Petur Petursson (3.35), Sebastian Soderberg (3.83), Charlie Winegardner (3.31) and Daily Young (3.64).
