CONWAY- Through the first five days of preseason workouts, five sessions of practice are in the books for the Coastal Carolina women's basketball team.
The first five practices have had the emphasis placed on building team chemistry as the Chants welcome in six new members to the team with five freshmen and a junior college transfer. The incoming freshmen class is the largest in five years for head coach Alan LeForce.
"We have made great strides as a team through the first few practices," said LeForce. "We still have alot to learn as a team and more work to do on the defensive end of the floor."
In addition to getting the team intergraded and working as a unit, the Chants have spent time learning to play more of an up-tempo style of offense that will take advantage of the team's athleticism.
"This year's team is full of great athletes that have the ability to run the court," said LeForce. "As a staff we have to work with the team to get them into the mindset of pushing the ball down the floor."
The standout thus far in the preseason has been senior Sydnei Moss, a second team all-conference selection in 2008-09 and 2009-10. Moss led the Chanticleers in scoring last season with 15.4 points per game.
"Sydnei worked hard this summer to improve all aspects of her game," said LeForce, "That effort is really coming through on the court in practice."
Coastal will open the season as host to Southern Virginia on Nov. 12 to kick off the program's final home season in Kimbel Arena before moving to the new Convocation Center next year.
