CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team was one of 436 teams to earn the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year.
To qualify for the award, teams must post a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the calendar year. Coastal Carolina won the award for the tenth consecutive time in school history and is one of seven schools from the Big South to earn the award this year.
Leading the charge for this year's nod was first-team ESPN All-Academic District III selection Colleen Schohl with her 3.93 GPA.
The Chanticleers finished the year as co-Big South regular season champions with a 10-8-2 record. It was the third time since the 2007 season that the Chants have claimed a share of the Big South regular season title. Coastal's bid for a tournament championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament came up short as the Chants were defeated 3-2 by Liberty in the Big South Tournament.
Three Chants garnered All-Big South honors as senior midfielder Anna Tupy was tabbed a first team selection; Kate Wilkinson, a freshman forward, a second team selection and member of the all-freshman team; and freshman forward Hannah Brown an all-tournament performer.
The Coastal Carolina men's team was also earned NSCAA All-Academic recognition, making Coastal Carolina one of only 126 schools nationwide to have both its men's and women's program recognized.
