Men's Golf Captures Seventh Straight Big South Title

NINETY-SIX, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team held on to win its league-record seventh straight Big South Conference Championship, Wednesday, April 21. The Championship was contested over 54 holes from April 19-21 at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor (Par 72 - 7,079 yards) in Ninety-Six, S.C. With the win, the Chanticleers earn their seventh straight NCAA Regional berth, which will be played May 20-22 at one of six pre-determined sites.
Leading by eight through two rounds, the Chanticleers shot a 4-over 292 in the final round to post a 54-hole total of 868 and hold on to the title by four shots over runner-up Charleston Southern at 872. Liberty moved up to third on the final day with a tournament low 281 in the final 18, finishing at 873. Winthrop was fourth at 886, with High Point rounding out the top five at 890.
Senior Dan Obremski finished as the top Chanticleer in third at 1-under 215, six shots behind Liberty's Robert Karlsson, who shot a tournament-low 66 in the last round to earn medalist honors at 7-under 209. Freshmen Sebastian Soderberg and Charlie Winegardner joined Obremski on the All-Big South squad after playing their way on to the team. Soderberg finished in a tie for fourth at 1-over 217, including a team-best 2-under 70 in the final round, while Winegardner placed eighth at 2-over 218, with two rounds of par or better in the tournament. Senior Sam Lyons was next in a tie for 15th at 6-over 222, while redshirt-sophomore Drew Ernst rounded out the team scoring in a tie for 21st at 9-over 225.
