Baseball's Birmingham Selected by San Francisco in MLB Draft

CONWAY, S.C. - Coastal Carolina University left-handed pitcher Jim Birmingham (Pine Hill, N.J./Penn) has been selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 33rd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
Birmingham is 6-2 with a 4.82 earned-run average in 52.1 innings pitched for the Chanticleers this season. Birmingham has made 12 starts and combined for two shutouts. He was named the Big South Pitcher of the Week March 2 after allowing just one run in seven innings of work in a win over North Carolina State. He allowed just one hit in five innings in a win over Wake Forest and struck out eight in seven innings of work in a win over Presbyterian.
Coastal Carolina hosts South Carolina Saturday, June 12 at 12 p.m., in the Myrtle Beach Super Regional.
