Post-game Quotes

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Davis Bennett

Opening Statement:
"Another tough loss. I don't know if we've been 0-3 but that's where we sit right now. We had our chances in that football game but neither offense nor defense could seize the moment together. We're driving the ball there to take the lead, and if I'm not mistaken, we throw a ball up, a bullet goes through Childers' hands, looks like up in the air and they pick it. And through all of the stuff, the blocked punt, through a blocked Extra Point, and I still think they forward lateraled the ball going down the field. But through all of that, we still had a chance to take the lead. Our guys are in the ball game. Heck, they fought hard. We just got to continue to grow up, mature and become men and not be, you know young fellows trying to do our own thing."

On Coastal's Performance:
"I'm proud of the effort they gave. I thought our defense, at times, stopped their option offense. The plays that hurt us we're their play-action pass."

On Georgia Southern's Defense:
"Did you know that Georgia Southern had the #1 defense in the country coming into this game...that's more points scored on them tonight. They held Navy to 13. We had some effort there but we just need to get everything channeled in the right direction, going together."

Georgia Southern Head Coach Jeff Monken

Opening Statement:
"I though our guys really fought hard and Coastal did too. I have to give that team and coaching staff a lot of credit. They were a 0-2 team fighting for their lives; coming off a five overtime game against Towson, Coastal did a great job getting up and ready to play tonight.

"I felt like our guys played with some confidence tonight and made some plays when they counted. I was disappointed with the fumble as we were going in to score. We let them hit some passes over the top that turned into score. We still have some areas that we need to work on."

On deciding to pass on fourth down late in the game with a 10 point lead:
"I didn't think we were going to go out there and stop them if they got the ball back. They were throwing the ball well. We needed to try to win the game and throwing a pass there was the best option."
