CONWAY- The Coastal Carolina University women's basketball team will face four opponents who competed in the postseason last year as part of a challenging 2010-11 schedule, which was announced by head coach Alan LeForce Wednesday.
Of those four, the Chanticleers will play North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Nov. 19 and will host Butler on Dec. 19 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center in non-conference match ups. Gardner-Webb and Liberty were the other two postseason competitors, which Coastal will challenge as part of the Big South Conference schedule.
For the second straight year, the Chanticleers will host Southern Virginia Fri., Nov. 12 to officially tip off the season before hitting the road for a three game road trip to College of Charleston, North Carolina and Elon.
A brief, two-game homestand awaits Coastal when they return as the Chants will take on Campbell before facing Coker. It will be the fifth straight season Coastal has faced Campbell as part of its non-conference schedule.
The Chanticleers will then return to the road to take part in the 2010 Aces Winter Classic (Dec. 3-4) hosted by the University of Evansville. The Chanticleers are guaranteed two games in the tournament with the first coming against Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan. Depending on the results of the first day, Coastal will then either play host school Evansville or Horizon League member Valparaiso.
Next, the Chants finish up their non-league slate playing home in three of four contests starting with a three-game homestand against Converse , UNC Wilmington and Butler. The Bulldogs, who have played in the postseason for two consecutive years, fell to Illinois State 57-54 in the first round of the 2010 WNIT.
The LeForce-led Chanticleers will close out the 2010 calendar year, and non-conference portion of the season, with a trip north to battle USC Upstate on Dec. 30.
The Chants' standard 16-game Big South Conference schedule - which pits each conference member against each other twice in a home-and-home series - begins with a trio of home games against Charleston Southern, UNC Asheville, and WNIT participant Gardner-Webb. Coastal split the regular season match ups with both Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville last season, but were able to notch a decisive victory over Charleston Southern in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament.
Coastal Carolina will then play at High Point before heading to 2010 Big South champion Liberty. The road trip continues as the Chanticleers travel to Radford and Winthrop. Coastal posted a 3-1 record against Radford and Winthrop last season with the lone loss coming at the hands of Winthrop on March 1.
A return trip home will feature games against Presbyterian, Winthrop and Radford. Coastal split the season series with the Blue Hose last season.
Coastal then goes back on the road for trips to Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville before returning home for their final homestand of the season against Liberty and High Point. The Chanticleers close out the regular season with a quick trip south to Charleston Southern on March 4.
The Chants, which advanced to the semifinal of the Big South Tournament for the first time in three years, will feature returning starters Sydnei Moss, Katie Ahaus, and Katie White. Moss, who was a second team All-Big South performer, averaged 15.4 points per game last season.
