HIGH POINT, N.C. - Chad Gray and Desmond Holloway scored 17 points and Coastal Carolina ran its winning streak to 17 with an 82-58 victory over High Point Thursday night from the Millis Center.
The Chants have not lost since falling to No. 20 Georgetown on Nov. 18 and currently own the nation's second-longest winning streak and trail only top-ranked Ohio State.
Sam McLaurin finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds and registered his second double-double of the season, while Anthony Raffa added 10 points and two steals.
Nick Barbour led High Point with 14 points and five rebounds, but was limited to just six points in the second half. Shay Shine added 10 points and three assists.
Coastal Carolina (19-2, 10-0) opened the second half on a 18-6 run over the first 5:14 and built a 50-30 lead. The Chanticleers made eight field goals during the run and had seven come in the paint on their way to finishing the game with a 48-22 edge in points in the paint.
High Point (6-13, 3-7) fought to within 16 points at the 12:29 mark of the half on a jumper by Du'Vaughn Maxwell, but Coastal scored the next six points to take a 22-point lead at 58-36.
The Chanticleers would go on to lead by as many as 28 points in the second half and shot a season-best 75.9 percent on 22-for-29 shooting from the field. Overall, Coastal shot 62.3 percent from the field and limited High Point to just 37.9 percent. In addition, it was the 10th time this season and third straight time the Chants have held an opponent to fewer than 60 points.
Brandon Crawford put Coastal Carolina ahead 24-16 with a pair of free throws with just under five minutes remaining in the first half before High Point used an 8-2 run that included back-to-back three-pointers from Barbour to cut the Chanticleer lead to 26-24 with 2:19 left before halftime.
Holloway scored the next six points and the Coastal defense held High Point scoreless as the Chanticleers opened up a 32-24 lead at halftime.
Coastal returns to action Saturday night at 6 p.m. when the Chants travel to Radford, Va., to take on Radford from the Dedmon Center. The game will be televised live on MASN and can be seen locally on WMBF.
