CLINTON, S.C. - Desmond Holloway registered his fourth double-double of the season and Coastal Carolina won its 21st straight game following a 61-41 victory over Presbyterian Thursday evening from the Templeton Center.
Holloway scored 23 points, hit a career-high five three-pointers and recorded 14 rebounds to help the Chanticleers hold a 41-26 edge on the boards.
Chad Gray added 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, while Sam McLaurin scored 10 points and had a pair of rejections to help Coastal post a 24-6 advantage in points in the paint.
Walt Allen led Presbyterian with 15 points and finished 5-for-8 from three-point range. Pierre Miller led the Blue Hose with nine rebounds.
Presbyterian opened the second half on a 15-2 run, which included three 3-pointers from Allen, to cut the Coastal Carolina 20-point halftime lead to 37-30 just over five minutes into play.
Coastal Carolina (23-2, 14-0) answered with a 13-4 run thereafter to push its lead by to 16 points at 50-34. The Blue Hose fought to within 12 points midway through the half, but scored just three points and had one field goal over the final 8:09 en route to their fourth straight loss.
Coastal Carolina used a 22-2 run and held Presbyterian without a field goal over the final 7:49 of the first half to break a 13-13 tie and take a 35-15 lead into halftime.
Holloway hit three-pointers on back-to-back-to-back-to-back possessions for the Chanticleers and scored 16 points in the first half. Gray added 13 points and the duo accounted for 29 of the Chants' 35 first half points.
Presbyterian shot 20.0 percent in the first half on 5-for-25 shooting and went the final 8:29 of the opening period without a field goal. Coastal finished the first half 51.9 percent from the field (14-for-27) and 50.0 percent from three-point range (5-for-10).
Coastal Carolina returns to action Saturday night at 7 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop from the Winthrop Coliseum.
