CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team secured its first win of the season following a 5-2 victory over Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Chanticleers picked up the first point of the match after sweeping through the doubles competition. Juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock turned in an 8-5 win at No. 1 over Erica White and Laura Kriett, while senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson posted an 8-3 win over Ioana Oprea and Jenny Lunde at the No. 2 position.
Freshman Kourtney Kowal and senior Caitlyn Brooksbank completed the sweep for Coastal with an 8-1 win over Rita Gouveia and Ronia Hutterli at No. 3.
The Chants took four of the six singles matches on their way to picking up their first league win of the season. Bunea downed Oprea 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, while Kowal recorded a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over Kriett at No. 3.
Kristofersson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 over Lunde before Maria Hesketh claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Tavenner Black at No. 6.
"Gardner-Webb is a good team and they are well-coached," Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said. "It is always good to get a conference win early in the season."
Coastal Carolina returns to the court Friday at 2 p.m. when the Chanticleers travel to Kennesaw, Ga., to face Kennesaw State.
