Women's Tennis Loses Heartbreaker To UNC Wilmington

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team saw its six-match winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon in a 4-3 loss to UNC Wilmington from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
Coastal Carolina (6-2) fell behind 1-0 early on after losing the doubles point despite an 8-5 victory from senior Lexi Bolesky and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson over Olga Blank and Angela Sekely at the No. 1 position.
Sekely put the Seahawks up 2-0 following her 6-1, 6-0 victory over freshman Kourtney Kowal at No. 3. Bolesky picked up the first point of the match for the Chants and cut the UNC Wilmington lead in half when she bested Blank 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1.
Kristofersson evened the match 2-2 following her 6-0, 6-3 victory over Christina Riley at No. 4. Lindsay Leblang gave UNC Wilmington the lead again and put the Seahawks ahead 3-2 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Diana Mortlock at No. 5.
Freshmen Maria Hesketh pulled Coastal even with UNC Wilmington at 3-3 when she downed Chelsea Kahle 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 at the No. 6 position. Christina Lee, however, sealed the match for the Seahawks with a narrow 7-5, 6-3 win over Miki Bunea at No. 2.
"UNC Wilmington is very well-coached and played a little better than we did, but our girls really fought hard today," Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said. "We knew going in to this match that it would come down to just a few points and they stepped up and played well. Hopefully we will grow from this pressure type experience and perform a little better next time."
Coastal Carolina returns to action Monday at 2:30 p.m. when the Chants host Case from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
