CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team won its second straight match following a 7-0 shutout of West Virginia State Wednesday afternoon from the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
Coastal Carolina (13-4) swept all three doubles matches to win the first point of the afternoon. Juniors Miki Bunea and Diana Mortlock won the first doubles match when they defeated Andreea Slusarciuc and Eben Russell 8-0 at the No. 2 position. Seniors Lexi Bolesky and Caitlyn Brooksbank clinched the match for the Chants with an 8-0 win over Brittany Craig and Maria Moreno at No. 1.
Freshmen Maria Hesketh and Dominique De Wit complete the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 over Ana Juarez and Meghan Stewart.
Sophomore Amanda Malatek put the Chanticleers ahead 2-0 when she bested Stewart 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. De Wit gave Coastal Carolina a 3-0 advantage following her 6-0, 6-1 win over Russell at the No. 5 position.
Brooksbank sealed the win for the Chants after defeating Moreno 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. Mortlock turned in a 6-0, 6-0 win over Juarez at No. 3, while Bolesky downed Slusarciuc 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Bunea completed the shutout with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Craig at the No. 2 position.
"Today was a great day to celebrate our two seniors - Laurel Bolesky and Caitlyn Brooksbank," Coastal Carolina head coach Jody Davis said. "Both of them have done an outstanding job for our program and they will be missed not only for their contributions on the court, but for their leadership and for being great teammates. It was great that both of them were able to play doubles together and clinch the doubles point and team match in singles. We now must focus on conference play coming up this weekend. UNC Asheville plays well at home and we will be challenged."
The Chanticleers face UNC Asheville Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center on the UNC Asheville campus.
