Bunea, Kristofersson Honored By Big South

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coastal Carolina junior Miki Bunea has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Tennis Player of the week, and freshman Mikaela Kristofersson has been tabbed as The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday.
Bunea had two wins in singles and two wins in doubles last week to help the Chanticleers earn a share of the Big South Regular Season Championship for the first time since 2001. She and partner Diana Mortlock won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles against Presbyterian before ending the week with an 8-2 victory over Charleston Southern.
Playing at the No. 2 singles position, Bunea turned in a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Presbyterian's Christina Limantoro to clinch a 6-1 win for the Chanticleers. Against Charleston Southern, Bunea topped Brooke Pletcher 6-3, 6-0 to clinch a 5-2 win for the Chanticleers.
It is the second time this season that Bunea has been selected as the Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Kristofersson also won in both singles and doubles in Coastal Carolina's last regular season matches last week. She played No. 1 doubles with Lexi Bolesky and the duo posted an 8-0 win at Presbyterian. In singles against the Blue Hose, she won 6-2, 6-2 over Patricia Alves.
In the Chanticleers last match of the season against Charleston Southern, Kristofersson and Bolesky defeated Angie Torres and Brooke Pletcher 8-2 at the No. 1 doubles position. She followed that performance by defeating Alexandra Walters 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles to help the Chanticleers clinch a share of the regular season title and earn the No. 2 seed at the Big South Championships.
Kristofersson has now earned Big South Women's Tennis Freshman of the Week accolades four times this season.
