Six Women's Tennis Chants Win Big South Postseason Awards

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Six different members of the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team racked up a total of 13 awards Wednesday night when the Big South Conference handed out its annual postseason awards from the Big South Championships banquet.
Junior Miki Bunea was named to the Big South All-Academic Team, the all-conference singles team, the all-conference doubles team, was the flight champion at No. 2 singles and was the flight champion at No. 2 doubles.
Bunea turned in a 19-3 record in singles play and was 18-2 when playing at the No. 2 position, which includes having won her last nine matches. The Bucharest, Romania, native has not lost a singles match since falling in three sets to her opponent from Florida Atlantic on March 18th. Bunea is also 7-0 in Big South play and went to a third set just once in league action.
It is the second straight year that Bunea has earned a spot on the all-conference singles team.
Bunea played at the No. 1 or No. 2 doubles position during the season and ended the year with a 17-4 overall record and an undefeated 7-0 mark in conference play. She has won 13 straight doubles matches and has not lost since falling to East Carolina on March 12th.
Her fifth award came when she was recognized as a member of the Big South All-Academic Team. Bunea is a marketing major and has an overall GPA of 3.63.
Junior Diana Mortlock was named to the all-conference doubles team and was crowned the flight champion at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles. Mortlock finished the year 5-2 at No. 5 singles and 6-0 at No. 2 doubles in conference play on her way to earning the two awards. Her selection to the all-conference doubles team came following a season that post a 17-4 overall record and a 7-0 mark in conference. Mortlock has also been a part of a doubles combo that has won 13 straight matches.
Senior Lexi Bolesky earned a spot on both the all-conference singles and doubles team. Bolesky enters the Big South Championships with a 15-8 singles record and a 16-5 mark in doubles. In fact, Bolesky posted a 6-1 mark in league play in doubles matches from the No. 1 position.
Freshman Mikaela Kristofersson was also selected to the all-conference doubles team after posting a 16-5 record and a 6-1 mark inside the league from the No. 1 position.
Freshman Maria Hesketh was named the flight champion at the No. 6 singles position after turning in a 7-0 record in league play. Hesketh defeated six of her seven Big South opponents in straight sets this season.
Chanticleer head coach Jody Davis was tabbed the Big South Co-Coach of the Year along with Gardner-Webb head coach Jim Corn. David led the Chanticleers to a 19-5 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the Big South. The 19 wins is tied for the fourth-most in school history and the 6-1 conference record marks the 15th straight winning season in Big South play.
Davis has been honored as the Big South Coach of the Year five times in his career.
