Women's Tennis Tests UNC Asheville At Big South Championships

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team will face No. 7 seed UNC Asheville in the first round of the Big South Championships Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. from the Memorial Courts on the Winthrop campus.
The Chanticleers earned the No. 2 overall seed after finishing the season with a 19-5 overall record and a 6-1 record inside the Big South Conference. Coastal Carolina's only loss in conference this season was a 4-3 setback at Liberty earlier this month.
Coastal Carolina enters the championships on a two-match winning streak and has won eight of its last nine matches. In fact, the Chanticleers have won those eight matches by an average of 4.25 points per game.
The Chanticleers are 1-0 this season against UNC Asheville following a 6-1 win earlier this season in Asheville, N.C. The win improved the Chants' record against UNC Asheville to 18-0 since 1996.
Coastal junior Miki Bunea and freshman Maria Hesketh finished the season with the most singles victories for the Chants after both posted a record of 19-3. Bunea was 18-2 at the No. 2 position, while Hesketh was 17-3 when playing No. 6. Freshman Mikaela Kristofersson posted a record of 17-5 and was 14-3 at the No. 4 position.
Newcomer Diana Mortlock turned in a 17-4 mark in singles, while senior Lexi Bolesky was 15-8 overall this season.
In doubles, Bunea and Mortlock were 17-4 overall and won 14 matches playing at the No. 2 position. In addition, the duo was a perfect 7-0 in Big South play. Bolesky and Kristofersson ended the year with a 16-5 overall mark and were 14-4 at No. 1 and 6-1 in league action.
