Women's Tennis Defeats UNC Asheville To Advance At Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team turned in a 4-1 victory over UNC Asheville Thursday afternoon from the Charlotte Indoor Tennis Club in the first round of the Big South Championships.
The match was moved indoors and to a different location due to inclement weather in and around the Rock Hill, S.C., area. Once the match was moved, it was decided upon by all parties involved that singles would be played first rather than beginning with doubles.
Therefore, since the Chanticleers clinched the match in singles play, doubles play was unnecessary and was not played.
Senior Lexi Bolesky posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Britney Cloer at the No. 1 position, while junior Miki Bunea earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Stephanie Schon at the No. 2 position.
Junior Diana Mortlock bested Nicole Schon 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 before freshman Maria Hesketh posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Jackie McGuirk at the No. 6 position. Freshman Mikaela Kristofersson and Zoe Hamel battled at the No. 4 position and were tied 1-1, but the Chants clinched the win before the completion of the match and it went unfinished.
Coastal Carolina will continue its quest for a Big South title Friday afternoon at noon against No. 3 seed Liberty.
