LEXINGTON, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's track and field team cruised through day three of the 2011 Big South Conference Championship Meet to win the conference championship in dominating fashion.

The Chanticleers tallied 228 total points on their way to the programs sixth championship since 2004. Defending champion Liberty finished second with 166.5 points followed by Charleston Southern in third with 83 points. High Point (81 points) and Gardner-Webb (77.5 points) rounded out the top five.

Coastal finished the day with ten All-Big South performances to bring its three-day total to 16. Leading the Chants on the day was sophomore Erica Peake with a total of four all-conference efforts. Peake finished second in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash in times of 11.95 and 24.20, respectively. She was also a member of both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams that laid claim to the Big South Championship in the events.

The 4x100 meter relay team of London Smalls, Darriale Henley, Peake and Ashley Davis cruised to the finish line in a facility record setting time of 45.75. Not to be outdone, the 4x400 meter relay also set the facility record on its way to a first place finish. The quartet of Vondeeshia Humphries, Peake, Santresa Jamison and Jerica Howard completed the event in a 3:48.13 clip.

Jamison and Christian Johnson each earned all-conference honors on the day by placing second in their respective events. Jamison was the top Chanticleers in the 400 meters with a time of 56.06. Johnson, a junior, set her season-best time in the 1,500 meters as she crossed the finish line in 4:35.96.

Kierra Gabe, Anjulia Nicholson, Humphries and Smalls rounded out the impressive list of Chanticleers to earn all-conference honors by placing third in their events. Gabe turned in a distance of 11.76m (38-07) in the triple jump to pick up her second all-conference honors after placing second in Friday's long jump. Nicholson, who entered the meet with the conferences top throw in the discus, heaved the implement 42.18m (138-05). Humphries turned in a time of 56.10 in the 400 meters, while Samlls finished the 100 meters in 12.20.

Head coach Alan Connie was named Big South Coach of the Year for the eighth time. In all Connie has garnered 29 coach of the year honors -- 12 in cross country, nine in indoor track and field and eight in outdoor track and field.

"I am extremely proud of the way this group of young women represented Coastal Carolina and the local community over the past three days," said Connie. "Winning this championship took a lot of focus, determination and sacrifice. This group did all that was necessary to succeed not only as individuals, but also as a team."

Coastal will return to action at the annual Penn Relays starting on April 28 in Philadelphia.
