Box Score / Video Interview with Coach Green

ROCK HILL, S.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Ashley Bagwell struck out 12 hitters and held the Highlanders to just three hits as No. 4 Coastal Carolina knocked off No. 1 Radford 2-1 in game five of the 2011 Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Lighting Thursday afternoon at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C.

With the win, the Chanticleers improve to 25-32, while Radford falls to 35-20.

Coastal Carolina put two runs on the board in the top of the third to take the 2-0 lead. Stacy Snellings led the inning off with a double. Ashley Pisone followed with a RBI double down the right field line. Pisone stole third and was able to score as the throw to third sailed into left field.

Radford cut the lead to 2-1 as it moved one runner across in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Michelle Beall blasted a high fly ball that was dropped by the third baseman, while the ball was in the air Beall was able to make it all the way to third. Vicki Madden followed with a single up the middle to plate Beall, but that was as close as the Highlanders would get.

Bagwell picked up the win in the circle for the Chanticleers and moves to 15-13, while Stephanie Dameron suffered the loss and falls to 15-6.

Radford will play No. 4 Charleston Southern at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning. Coastal Carolina will play the winner of that contest at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

Quotes
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Kelley Green
"Obviously a big win over the Regular-Season Champion. It has been a while since we beat them and we had been in pressure situations all game. Bagwell pitched great and we got enough runs early to hold on for the win. It puts us in a nice position in the tournament, but we know there are a lot of big games left and we have to say focused.

Radford Head Coach Mickey Dean
"Our best players best players have to out perform the other team's best players to win and we didn't do that tonight. We received strong pitched and played great defense but when you can't hit the ball you can't win."
