NCAA Men's Golf Live Scoring/Results
STILLWATER, Okla. - Coastal Carolina sophomore Sebastian Soderberg carded an opening-round 77 (five-over par) to tie for 90th Tuesday at the 2011 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, played at Oklahoma State's 7,416-yard, par 72 Karsten Creek.
Also on Tuesday, Soderberg was named Division I PING All-East Region by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Soderberg becomes the third Chanticleer to earn GCAA/PING All-Region, joining Dustin Johnson (2006) and Zack Byrd (2007 and '08). Soderberg is a two-time All-Big South honoree and earned a berth to the NCAA Championships thanks to a tie for second finish at the NCAA East-Virginia Tech Regional.
As for Soderberg's opening round at the 2011 NCAA Championship, the Ojersjo, Sweden native started on hole 10 and opened with three straight pars before taking a bogey on the par four 13th. He bounced back with a par only to suffer four straight bogeys, including the difficult 17th.
Making the turn at four over par, Soderberg did not record a single par on his back nine, holes 1-9, rather getting four birdies and five bogeys for his one-over final nine holes and five-over for the day.
Georgia Tech's James White leads the field, shooting a five-under 67 on Tuesday.
There will be two more rounds (one Wednesday and one Thursday) to determine the 2011 NCAA Men's Individual medalist.
