CONWAY - For the third time in three years, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has been recognized on the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team as the Chanticleers posted a team grade point average of at least a 3.0 for the 2010-11 year.
While this marks the third year the GCAA has issued such recognition, the Coastal Carolina men's golf team has achieved at least a 3.0 team GPA in each of Director of Golf Allen Terrell's 11 years with the Chanticleers.
This past year, the Chanticleer men's golf program posted a GPA of 3.054, led by Sebastian Soderberg's3.37 cumulative GPA in Exercise Science. Soderberg named All-Big South, Academic All-Big South, All-Region and qualified for the NCAA Championship last season.
"I want to first thank my players for their dedication both on and off the golf course," Terrell said. "We stress academic success as much as we expect athletic success. I am proud of the tradition we have established here and the level of pride we have for competing on a national level and maintaining a 3.0 in the classroom. That being said, we could not have attained our academic success without the tremendous support we receive from the University and Department of Athletics. Specifically, I would like to thank Dr. Joe Mazurkiewicz and Sam Kost for their guidance."
The 2011-12 Coastal Carolina men's golf team will begin competition Sept. 18-19 at the Gene Miranda Invitational. The two-day event will be played Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Eisenhower Golf Club.
