Women's Soccer to Host Georgia Southern on Sunday

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will host Georgia Southern in its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. The match was postponed from its original date of Saturday, Aug. 27 due to forecasted inclement weather caused by Hurricane Irene.
The Chanticleers enter the bout looking to rebound from a slow start to the 2011 season. The Chants fell to Jacksonville 2-1 in the season opener on Friday, August 19 followed by a 5-0 loss at the hands on North Florida two days later. Last season the Chanticleers also started the season 0-2, but rebounded in the third game of the season to defeat College of Charleston 4-2 despite falling behind 2-nil in the first half of play.
Additionally, the Chants will be looking for a bit of revenge against Georgia Southern as the Eagles claimed last season's meeting by a 1-0 margin in Statesboro.
First year Chanticleer head coach Paul Hogan has used starting combinations in the first two games that have included up to four true freshmen and four sophomores on the field at kick off. In all, seven freshmen made their collegiate debut during the North Florida Tournament.
Pacing the Chants thus far is sophomore Christina Stern. Stern scored the team's lone goal of the season against Jacksonville. The goal was Stern's third of her young collegiate career. The midfielder also leads Coastal with five total shot attempted. Junior Cami Skladany along with freshmen Shelby Evans and Rylie Johnsonjoin Stern as Chanticleers to attempt a shot on goal this season.
Freshman goalkeeper Saundra Baronhas played all 180 minutes in goal tallying 11 saves on 38 total shots.
Georgia Southern will enter the match carrying a 0-2 record after dropping its season opener at Winthrop by a 3-1 final followed by a 2-0 home loss to Mercer on Thursday, Aug. 25.
