Women's Tennis Sends Pair Of Doubles To Finals

CHARLESTON - Seniors Miki Bunea and classmate Diana Mortlock advanced to the A1 doubles finals of the College of Charleston Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Bunea and Mortlock ousted Nurik and Singh of Tennessee-Chattanooga in the Semifinals and will face host College of Charleston's Maddox and Falcone Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Miki and Diana showed great discipline and strong doubles on their way to the finals," said head coach Catherine Hewitt.
Amanda Malatek and Dominique De Wit beat Charleston Southern's duo of Nour and Das this morning and drew Baker and McMillan of host College of Charleston, defeating them 9-8 advancing to Sunday's final in the B1 flight. "I was very proud of their effort today," said Hewitt. "They came back from 6-1 and fought hard to get back into the match."
In the A1 singles, Bunea defeated Synn from Davidson, 6-3, 6-2. She followed that performance with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Samford's Van Rensburg. North Florida's Aviles defeated Bunea in the semi-finals 7-5, 6-1.
After losing her opening round Mikalea Kristofersson won her second match 6-3, 6-2 and will face Chattanooga's Nurik for fifth place.
"We have had a good start to the fall season as we look for a solid finish on day three in Charleston," said Hewitt.
