Chants Set for College of Charleston Cup

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will take part in the College of Charleston Cup on Friday and Sunday, September 9 and 11. The Chanticleers will matchup with Old Dominion on Friday at 5 p.m. and Cincinnati on Sunday at Noon.
In 2010 the Chanticleers played the College of Charleston at the Patriots Point facility. CofC quickly took a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute, but goals by Anna Tupy and Hannah Brown evened the score at the break. The Chants would complete the come from behind victory in the second half as Ashley Day and Sara Niles found the back of the net. The win was the first of the season for the Chanticleers and helped springboard the team to a Big South Conference regular season championship.
The Chants have been paced this season by sophomore Christina Stern's two goals on five shots on frame. Classmate Alyssa Clark scored the Chants only other goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Georgia Southern. Stern currently ranks sixth in the Big South's goals scored list and seventh with 11 total shot attempts on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Saundra Baron has recorded 21 total saves this season ranking her tied for third in the Big South Conference. Additionally, Baron is sixth in the conference with an average of 4.2 saves per contest.
Old Dominion (1-3-1, 0-0 Colonial) vs. Coastal Carolina (0-4-1, 0-0 Big South)

This will be the second all-time meeting between Coastal and Old Dominion. The Chanticleers claimed a 2-1 victory over the Monarchs on a neutral site in 2004. The Chants are 2-8 all-time against foes from the Colonian Athletic Association.
Old Dominion enters the contest coming off a 3-1 win over Arizona State on Sept. 4. The win was the programs first of the season and broke a three game losing skid that included defeats to East Carolina (1-4), N.C.State (1-4) and Richmond (0-4).
Pacing the Monarchs this season is Lisa Bernardini with two goals and an assist. Bernardini has also attempted the most Old Dominion shots with 11 on the year.

This will be the first meeting between the Chanticleers and the Bearcats on the pitch. Additionally, the match will be the first time the Chants have matched up against an opponent from the Big East Conference.
Through six matches this season, UC has outshot its opponents by an astounding 101-56 margin. The Bearcats have attempted more shots than their opponents in all but one match. Cincinnati also owns a 46-18 advantage in corner kicks on the season.
Emily Hebbeler and Christi Howard lead the Bearcats with two goals each on the season.
