Emily Marchini Named Big South Runner of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) - Emily Marchini of the Coastal Carolina women's cross country team has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the League announced today.
Marchini, a sophomore from Massapequa, N.Y., crossed the line in 18:36.12 to win the 5,000-meter South Carolina Gamecock Invitational over the weekend. She outkicked four athletes in the final 1,000 meters, including two in the final 150 meters, to secure the win and lead her team to a second-place finish at the event.
Gardner-Webb's Michael McClay was named the Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Marchini and the Chanticleers return to action on Sept. 17 as hosts to the 7th Annual Coastal Carolina University Invitational/Big South Preview at Quail Creek Golf Club. The starting gun will fire for the men's race at 8:30 a.m. followed by the women's race at 9:15 a.m.
