CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's golf team opens the 2011-12 season Sunday when the Chanticleers travel to College Station, Texas to compete in the Texas A&M Mo' Memorial at Traditions Club.
Traditions Club was the site of the 2011 NCAA Championships where Coastal Carolina became the first Big South school to qualify for the NCAA Championships and finished 24th.
The Chants return junior Jessica Alexander who finished tied for 37th in the NCAA's along with fellow classmate Brittany Henderson, senior Kaitlin Higginbotham and sophomore Courtney Boewho were all members of last year's NCAA qualifying team.
Alexander, the 2011 Big South Player of the Year was named to the top 50 college players to watch list by Golf Digest.
"We are excited and prepared for the challenge that this year's highly competitive schedule will bring," said Coastal Carolina head coach Katie Quinney. "I could not be happier that these student-athletes have been given the opportunity to play such a world class schedule this year and it is much deserved from their hard work and success of last season."
"The team has worked hard this summer, especially the last two weeks to prepare for Texas A&M," said Quinney, who is entering her fourth year as head coach of the Chants. "I think they are a little bitter about their finish in May and are determined to improve their results at the Traditions. It is a great field and we hope to start the season off with wins against highly ranked teams."
Besides Coastal Carolina and Texas A&M who finished seventh last year, the field will include Auburn, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Texas, Tulane and University of Texas at San Antonio.
