Final Stats
CONWAY - Coastal Carolina women's tennis dropped its first match of the year 5-2 against UNC Greensboro Wednesday afternoon at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
"We played a tough Greensboro team," said first year head coach Catherine Hewitt. "It was a great test for us but exposed some of our weaknesses. We are aware of what we need to work on as we move forward."
Greensboro won two of three on the doubles side to take the first point of the afternoon. Coastal bounced back with a win from the No. 2 position as Diana Mortlock defeated Dilara Yurtkuran in straight sets (7-6(3), 6-1). The Spartans regained the lead 2-1 when Alex Whitehead topped Mikaela Kristofersson 6-4, 6-2.
Coastal's Kourtney Kowal would knot the match at two apiece in a straight set victory (7-5, 6-2) over Lucy Dougherty, improving her record to 7-0 on the year.
UNCG (5-3) would win the last three matches, all in three sets sending Coastal to 6-1 on the year.
Coastal returns to the courts tomorrow to face the Temple Owls in the first match of a double-header beginning at noon followed by the Coastal men's team playing at approximately 3:30 p.m.
