Flanagan Finishes 21st at U.S. Olympic Trials

June 23, 2012

EUGENE, Ore. - Coastal Carolina's Jason Flanagan, who recently capped his exceptional collegiate career with USTFCCCA All-American honors, was the second former Chanticleer to chase the Olympic dream at the U.S. Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Flanagan, who owns the Big South and Coastal Carolina all-time javelin throw record with a distance of 73.01m (239-06), finished 21st in the 25-competitor field that featured the best javelin athletes in the country. The Philadelphia native opened the event with a throw of 63.81m (209-04) but would foul on his final two attempts of the day.

Flanagan, a two-time Big South champion, plans to train professionally with an eye toward representing the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The country's most prestigious pre-Olympic event, the Olympic Trials is where the roster for Team USA is selected for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. For a complete schedule and more information, log on to USATF.org, the home page of USA Track and Field.
