2013-14 Season Stats/Record Book Update
AUSTIN, TEXAS - Led by a career-best fourth-place finish by sophomore Marissa Hinchman, the Coastal Carolina women's golf team tied for third on the team leaderboard at the 54-hole The Challenge at Onion Creek tournament hosted by Texas State.
Coastal, which co-led the tournament with 15 birdies over the final round of play, carded a 35-over final score of 875 (291-298-286). The Chants' 286 third-round score was the lowest for the team this season in nine total rounds of competition. Moreover, the 286 round is tied for the fourth-best in Chanticleer history, while the 875 54-hole score ranks third-best. Coastal truly benefited from its par-5 scoring, playing the holes at a combined 1-over for the tournament.
Hinchman's fourth-place finish was the best of her career and Coastal's tops in a team event since Brittany Henderson won the Big South Championship last spring. Hinchman carded a final round of 73 to post a 54-hole score of 4-over 214 (69-72-73). She closed the third round of play with three birdies and an even-par score on the trio of par-5 holes.
Frida Castillo tied for seventh in the 61-competitor field with a score of 8-over 218 (76-71-71), marking the fourth top-10 showing of her career. Castillo co-led the field over the final round with five birdies, including two on par-3 holes.
Lena Schaeffner, Nadia Luttner and Emee Herbert each tied for 25th overall with matching 226 scores. Schaeffner (80-77-69) rebounded from an uncharacteristic first day of competition to shoot Coastal's low round of the day. The sophomore turned in four birdies against three bogeys to card a career-low 69 round. Luttner (71-78-77) used two birdies to shave a stroke off her second round score en route to posting a third-round 77. Herbert (75-78-73) vastly improved over the final round of competition to shoot a 73 with a pair of short birdie putts.
Saskia Sterud, who played in the event as an individual, placed 49th with a score of 238. Sterud (80-81-77) played the best round of her tournament on the final day to card a 77.
Coastal's next tournament is the Charleston Southern-hosted CSU Wendy's Invitational at the Rivertowne Country Club in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. The 54-hole tournament opens with 36 holes of play of Monday, Oct. 7 and concludes with a final 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
