Final Results

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's 400-meter runners dominated both individually and as a team, while sophomore Amirah Al-Bayyinah was also victorious Saturday as the Chanticleer women opened their indoor season Saturday at the JDL College Kick-off Classic.

Led by junior transfer Christal Green, Coastal runners swept the top four spots in the 400-meter race and the two Chant 4x400 relay teams finished 1-2.

Green, who was a two-time second-team All-American in 400 relays at South Carolina, debuted as a Chanticleer by winning the 400 meters with a time of 57.21. Teammate Camille Hurley was the runner-up and clocked 57.45, freshman Leah Fair placed third in 57.77 and Sharmaine Barnes was fourth in 58.33.

In the 4x400 relay, the team of Green, Teka Simpson, freshman Kaila Smith and Hurley won with a time of 3:49.28. Coastal's second relay team, comprised of Barnes, Fair, freshman Imani Boatwright and Christina Davis, also beat the rest of the field - which included two teams from Wake Forest - notching a time of 3:55.96.

Al-Bayyinah, meanwhile, took first place in the triple jump with a leap of 40-8.75 (12.41 meters). The mark was a career-best in indoor competition for Al-Bayyinah, who won the event at last season's outdoor Big South Championships. The sophomore also placed third in the long jump Saturday, recording a mark of 18-7.0 (5.66 meters).

Smith and Boatwright also had strong individual finishes in their collegiate meet. Smith, who was the South Carolina AAAA 400 hurdles champion, took runner-up honors in the 500 meters Saturday with a time of 1:18.36. Boatwright, a two-time winner of the South Carolina 800 meters at the AAA level, placed third in that same event in a time of 2:19.43, which was second-fastest among college runners in the event.

Hurley added a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.79, while Christina Davis was fifth (8.83) and Ashley Davis took sixth (8.89).

Coastal also had three runners finish in the top six of the 60-meter dash, led by Symphony Thompson and Gabrielle Lee, who both clocked 7.73 for fourth place. Ruby Durham was right behind with a 7.74, tying a personal-best.

Thompson, competing in the indoor season for the first time, also placed sixth in the 300 meters with a time of 40.84, while Raven Hamilton and Simpson each cleared 5-3.75 in the high jump to take sixth and seventh, respectively. Hamilton's mark was also a career-best.

Coastal will next compete at the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational January 24 and 25.
