Day 1 Results 
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Coastal Carolina sophomore Letitia Saayman was runner-up in the 5,000 meters during Friday's first day of the Hilton Garden Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Saayman, who was All-Big South in the 5,000 in last year's outdoor season, clocked a time of 17:42.20 Friday to finish behind only winner Hannah Witt of King College in the 25-runner field. Witt had a time of 17:35.25. The runner-up finish is Saayman's best in an indoor 5,000-meter race.
Freshman Kyla van Graan finished right behind teammate Saayman in third place with a time of 18:13.75. It was her second top-five finish in as many meets, after taking fifth in the 3,000 meters last weekend.
Senior Erica Peake took fourth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.49. Peake, who has two wins in the event this season, had the quickest time in the preliminaries (7.54).
Two Chants placed in the top six in the 400 meters as freshman Jessica Gelibert was fourth in a time of 57.08 and Qwontajah Thompson finished sixth in 57.58.
Senior Mary Lawrence posted a season-best mark in the pole vault to finish in a tie for fifth. Lawrence cleared 3.40 meters (11-1.75) on her first attempt at the height.
Freshman Amirah Al-Bayyinah notched her second straight top-five finish in the triple jump. Al-Bayyinah recorded a personal-best of 11.90 meters (39-0.5) to place fifth. Senior Anjulia Nicholson placed seventh in the weight throw, recording a mark of 16.38 meters (53-9.0).
Sophomore DeAndra Lipscomb posted the top performance for the Coastal men's team. Lipscomb took third place in the 400 meters in a time of 49.65. Also for the men, junior JaDarrell Barnette placed fifth in the triple jump, recording a mark of 14.19 meters (46-6.75) on his sixth and final attempt.
The meet, which includes more than 40 schools, resumes Saturday at 9:45 a.m., with running and field events getting under way at 10 a.m. Click here for live results.
