Scott and De Wit Honored by Big South Conference

Charlotte, N.C. - Libby Scott was named the 2013 Big South Freshman of the Year and made the All-Conference Singles Team, Dominique De Wit received Big South All-Academic Team honors, and the pair was named co-winners of the No. 3 doubles flight, the Conference announced at its annual awards banquet on Wednesday evening.
As a freshman, Scott had a team-best overall singles record of 16-4 in the 2013 regular season. Additionally, she posted a 6-3 record in Big South singles matches. The Dunedin, New Zealand native went 12-4 playing at No. 1 singles, including a stretch of six consecutive wins from March 14-29. Scott also played matches at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, going 3-0 and 1-0, respectively. The freshman performed equally well in doubles, finishing the season with an 18-3 overall mark.
De Wit, a junior from Son en Breugel, The Netherlands, was named to the Big South All-Academic Team for the first time in her Coastal career. A political science major with a 4.0 GPA, De Wit finished the 2013 regular season with a 5-8 overall record at No. 6 singles, going 3-3 in the Big South. De Wit had previously earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors in 2011 and 2012 for having at least a 3.2 GPA.
Scott and De Wit were paired together for 18 doubles matches during the 2013 season, going 15-3 overall and posting a perfect 8-0 record in Big South matches. The duo played mainly at No. 3 doubles, finishing with a 10-3 record. The two also went unbeaten at No. 2 doubles, finishing with a 5-0 mark. Winthrop's Caitlin Cridland and Ekin Gunaysu were the other No. 3 doubles flight co-winners.
