MYRTLE BEACH - The Coastal Carolina softball team fell to College of Charleston in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Carolina Forest High School, with the Cougars taking a 2-1 decision in the opener before winning the second 9-0 in five innings.

The Chanticleers (31-20) had their six-game winning streak stopped, while Charleston (30-16) notched its 10th and 11th victories in a row.

Bri Chiusano had a single in each game for Coastal to extend her hitting streak to eight games. Morgan Noad also recorded one hit in both contests, including her 12th home run of the season and the 59th for the Chants this year.

The homer came to start the fifth inning and cut the Charleston lead to one. However, Charleston pitcher Hope Klicker secured the victory by retiring the next nine batters as CCU was unable to find holes in the field. Klicker allowed just two hits, struck out four and walked two.

Coastal had an early opportunity in the first as Chiusano reached on a bunt single and stole second and Kory Hayden walked with one-out. However, a lineout double play off the bat of Cacia Pierre ended the threat.

The Cougars scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. A single, a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases and Kristy Giragosian hit a two-out, two-run double to left center.

Ashley Bagwell (10-8) took the loss despite pitching well. She went the distance and allowed just four hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Charleston broke open the second game with six-run second inning. A Coastal error to start the inning opened the door and the Cougars took advantage with three hits, including a three-run double by Lizzy Vaughn and a two-run homer by Kelsey Hodgson, who went 3-for-3 in the game.

C of C capped the scoring with three runs in fourth, using three more hits and another Chanticleer error. The Cougars totaled eight hits off of Mastriania but only one of the nine runs was earned. She struck out four and walked none.

Charleston's Stephanie Saylors duplicated Klicker's performance from the first game, limiting Coastal to just two hits while striking out three and walking one.

The Chants will finish their regular season with a three-game series at Big South Conference rival Liberty, beginning with a doubleheader Friday, April 26 at 2 p.m.
